Has something, or someone, come to exact a bloody vengeance? And how is it linked to a serial killer’s twenty year spree throughout the Nutmeg State?

To answer these questions, Bill Simmons will have to face his greatest fears and the failure that destroyed his life and left him a hopeless alcoholic. But will it be enough?

“Feed the Machine” is a story of human enslavement and the struggle to find a way to finally be free. Afraid of death, future loss, injury, and imprisonment, the majority of humans have become easily controlled and dominated by the powerful few. The greatest resource in history has not been gold or oil, it has been the extortion of other humans. You can’t get a hen to lay more eggs by threatening it but you can get a human to give you his eggs by threatening him. Human fear farming has been the most lucrative trade of all time and even now continues to feed the evil plans for domination of the universe by the bloated, power mad, and greedy Human Coercion Machine.World Gone

Out of Jacksonville, Florida the guys of World Gone have brought it together and can run with the big dogs ANY day! In fact, they do! From a stellar sound to an aesthetic that forces you to turn and look, these guys don’t even need to be on your radar, because they will be in your face soon enough, and you WILL see them, and you WILL love them!”

WorldGone-DigitalCover sansJMF

Hailing from a rusted old shed behind a trailer park on the Westside of Jacksonville, World Gone is preparing to assault your life and senses with a freak audio apocalypse like none before. Years of pent up aggression and disgust with state of our so called civilized society and clustered masses of trendy spineless media outlets have bred a wholeheartedly honest and vigorously explosive combination of volatile ingredients forming the thing know as World Gone. Your ears will be forcefully penetrated and your eyes will be ruthlessly violated by being witness to this xenomorph of maximum twisted force. Coming into existence through the wake of an unrealized dream, fueled by discontent and unwanted experiences, feelings, and thoughts, World Gone dissects and probes the depths of these shadow areas somehow trying to make something sick yet beautiful from the darkness in our lives and their current state of disrepair. World Gone has set on a journey to provoke inspired thought among the listening legions with poetry wrapped in an audial onslaught of brutality tempered with deep emotions that have been carved from the rotten flesh we call life. Singer and front man Joe Bennett is no newcomer to the shit storm known as the music business. Formerly with platinum selling artist Cold and other local Jacksonville heavy hitters like Snagglepuss and Order by Chaos, Joe has set out to make a difference not just for one group of listeners but all listeners. He has the presence, mind, and voice to delivers this post apocalyptic mutant gospel through at times terrifying and haunting orchestrations. Through years of writing and collaborating with some of the most creative minds in the industry like former and current members of Puddle of Mudd, Cold, and Evanescence, Joe has honed his craft and ability to pull at the frayed heart strings of your soul. Prepare to feel something, prepare to think, prepare to go beyond what is seen and explore the hidden dark corners of your mind. World Gone will rise to the pulpit to deliver this sermon with a dysfunctional choir to the fallen congregation. Give us your restless and shattered souls, we will give them the nourishment they seek. Sick and twisted things are happening in the underground of Florida. Come with us.

Press Release: The 45th’s Terrifying Tomorrow: All of the Flesh Served

Press Release:  The 45th’s Terrifying Tomorrow: All of the Flesh Served

How does a Horror/Dark Fantasy writer deal with the anxiety from our current political climate? He writes about it.

Terry M. West’s All of the Flesh Served is a novella due out on May 5th. The description:

Hundreds of years after the great cataclysm, the Ministry of the 45th survive in a network of scientific bunkers. The last bastion of the old holy order, the 45th are bent on rebuilding the scorched earth and eliminating God’s enemies. The Ministry wages a war against the mutant topsiders that occupy the dead states of the Soviet Union of America. Defending the 45th are the Red Guard, genetically engineered soldiers who are programmed to obey through their lifebrand. Dr. Morgan is a serviceman for Unit 468 of the Red Guard. His lifebrand being medicine, Dr. Morgan is the longest surviving field medic to serve. But Dr. Morgan is a deeply conflicted man with violent fantasies that contradict his pledge to preserve life. After escaping an abduction by the topsiders, Dr. Morgan’s faith is cracked. During a furlough in the high Chancellor’s bunker, Dr. Morgan is hailed a hero and taken off the front lines. But he soon realizes that someone has altered his lifebrand and lifted the veil that concealed the greatest deception ever perpetrated. Dr. Morgan has just become the most dangerous man in the wastelands. And when he discovers who the real enemy is, the revelation unleashes a fury strong enough to destroy what is left of the earth.

Expanded from a post-apocalyptic short story Terry wrote two years ago, he decided to center the novella on a possible dark future caused by the political actions currently in motion. “An all out attack on humanity, endangered species, the planet itself, and democracy. You know, that pesky little thing many, many Americans have died to protect,” Terry elaborates.all-of-the-flesh-served-cover

“The story begins with a quote from Voltaire,” Terry said. “Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities. And there lies the center premise of the story. This isn’t a satire. I have been wracked with fear and anger, and rather than unleashing it on people who disagree with me, I decided to work it out in this story. And this isn’t a one-sided attack. I have tried to give a feasible motivation to the Ministry of the 45th. There is a message to this story. I honestly feel this is the most important tale I have ever created. I hope more artists express themselves during this insanity.”

Bird Box Synopsis
Something is out there, something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse of it, and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.
Five years after it began, a handful of scattered survivors remains, including Malorie and her two young children. Living in an abandoned house near the river, she has dreamed of fleeing to a place where they might be safe. Now that the boy and girl are four, it’s time to go, but the journey ahead will be terrifying: twenty miles downriver in a rowboat–blindfolded–with nothing to rely on but her wits and the children’s trained ears. One wrong choice and they will die. Something is following them all the while, but is it man, animal, or monster?
Interweaving past and present, Bird Box is a snapshot of a world unraveled that will have you racing to the final page.

Hunt a Killer Unpacked
We were instantly hooked upon receiving our first two boxes. Each box contains a letter, written directly to you. The writer is an institutionalized patient with whom you’ve been put in contact, and is the person who reveals the puzzle, piece by piece. As one of us read aloud our pen pal’s creepy message—using his best Hannibal Lecter voice, of course—another inspected a mysterious star chart for hidden messages. Opening each box, reading each note, and holding each clue in your hand creates the illusion that you are in the midst of a mystery.
And this is far from a lone wolf investigation. There is an active Hunt A Killer forum, and a private Facebook group dedicated to solving the case. Subscribers swap theories and dissect the meaning behind the items in every box. Is there a code hidden in the pen pal’s most recent letter? Could a strange newspaper clipping point to the location of the murder? We fell down the rabbit hole for hours on end.
Hunt A Killer only approves 500 new members per month, so if you’re looking for an insanely addictive, interactive, Sherlock Holmes meets Silence of the Lambs-style experience, sign up to get your first box now.

Press Release:  Sharkantula

A gripping novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

sharkantula-frontWhen a genetically modified tarantula finds itself loose in the Great White shark exhibit at Shark World, the feisty arachnid sinks its fangs into the main attraction. Without warning, the Great White mutates into Sharkantula and the opening day show turns deadly.  The mutated shark/tarantula hybrid is hungry and ready to feast upon the flesh of those that don’t run away fast enough to escape her webbing.  Desperate to stop the carnage, a group of Shark World employees join forces with the tarantula’s keeper in an effort to stop the devastation before Sharkantula can escape the confines of the aquatic theme park and spread her terror across the United States.

Essel Pratt is a master of horror and fantasy, conjuring tales that haunt souls and inspire imagination. As a student of psychology and teller of tales, Essel writes to share the complex nature of his imaginings with the world. His ever-expanding catalog of short stories spans multiple anthologies and collections, ranging from whimsical fantasy to bizarre horror, including everything in between. Dedicated fans have praised his creations, labeling his talents as prolific in substance.

Hailing from Mishawaka, Indiana, his passion for writing began in the early years as his imagination taunted from within, begging for a release. Dabbling in art at first, he found that the stories that pleaded to be told could not be imprisoned by ink and paint alone. His most notable and prevalent accomplishments include Final Reverie, Sharkantula, and the multiple short stories that have garnered a following of their own, such as the adventures of Detective Mansfield.

Sharkantula is now available.

About M.Christian:

Calling M.Christian versatile is a tremendous understatement. Extensively published in science fiction, fantasy, horror, thrillers, and even non-fiction, it is in erotica that M.Christian has become an acknowledged master, with stories in such anthologies as Best American Erotica, Best Gay Erotica, Best Lesbian Erotica, Best Bisexual Erotica, Best Fetish Erotica, and in fact too many anthologies, magazines, and sites to name.  In erotica, M.Christian is known and respected not just for his passion on the page but also his staggering imagination and chameleonic ability to successfully and convincingly write for any and all orientations.

But M.Christian has other tricks up his literary sleeve: in addition to writing, he is a prolific and respected anthologist, having edited 25 anthologies to date including the Best S/M Erotica series; Pirate Booty; My Love For All That Is Bizarre: Sherlock Holmes Erotica; The Burning Pen; The Mammoth Book of Future Cops, and The Mammoth Book of Tales of the Road (with Maxim Jakubowksi); Confessions, Garden of Perverse, and Amazons (with Sage Vivant), and many more.

M.Christian’s short fiction has been collected into many bestselling books in a wide variety of genres, including the Lambda Award finalist Dirty Words and other queer collections like Filthy Boys, BodyWork, and his best-of-his-best gay erotica book, Stroke the Fire.  He also has collections of non-fiction (Welcome to Weirdsville, Pornotopia, and How To Write And Sell Erotica); science fiction, fantasy and horror (Love Without Gun Control); and erotic science fiction including Rude Mechanicals, Technorotica, Better Than The Real Thing, and the acclaimed Bachelor Machine.

As a novelist, M.Christian has shown his monumental versatility with books such as the queer vamp novels Running Dry and The Very Bloody Marys; the erotic romance Brushes; the science fiction erotic novel Painted Doll; and the rather controversial gay horror/thrillers Finger’s Breadth and Me2.

M.Christian is also the Associate Publisher for Renaissance eBooks, where he strives to be the publisher he’d want to have as a writer, and to help bring quality books (erotica, noir, science fiction, and more) and authors out into the world.

Dreams and nightmares often give us glimpses into our true character; they can reveal our deepest anxieties and our most ambitious aspirations. Weird fiction has a rich history with dreamlike stories and nightmares that cross boundaries between the real and imaginary. Even H. P. Lovecraft endured many bizarre dreams from the early days of his youth that he then used as inspiration for some of his fiction and poetry. Now world-renowned weird fiction scholar and editor S. T. Press Release : Thorazine Dreams

Get a Dose of Thorazine Dreams by Vic Kerry

Birmingham, Al, 11/3/16 — Sink your teeth into 15 tales of dark fiction with Vic Kerry’s new collectiondream-book-cover, available now in paperback and Kindle download from Pint Bottle Press.

When the line between the rational and delusional blurs, the dream becomes reality, and life becomes a nightmare. Experience the psychosis these stories induce, from tales of insanity to those of twisted hysterics. Take the shot, and enjoy the Thorazine Dreams.

Thorazine Nightmares is a more accurate title, but Thorazine Dreams has a better ring to it. In these short snippets of horror, Kerry draws a common thread of substances and the power they control over us, with or without our consent. You’ll meet a variety of classic monsters in these pages, but some unique ones, too. And the monster isn’t always who it seems.” — Kristin Dearborn, author of Whispers, Stolen Away, and Woman in White

“Vic Kerry’s writing is always intriguing and engaging. His stories are woven with a thoughtfulness that few can match. I eagerly read any story he writes.” — Lori Michelle, editor-in-chief of Dark Moon Digest

Vic Kerry spends his days as an inpatient psychiatric therapist and his nights dreaming up nightmares. He has written two novels and a novella, including Revel’s Ending and Decoration Day (both available from Samhain Publishing). Thorazine Dreams is his first collection of short stories.

Press Release: Monster Smash-Ups

Press Release : “MONSTER SMASH-UPS”
monsterMash
Indie horror comic label Scary Tales Publishing has announced the publication of their newest horror anthology comic magazine, “MONSTER SMASH-UPS”.  This new 40-page magazine format comic book was inspired by the classic Warren Publishing B&W horror comic mags of yesterday. The premier issue even includes a story written by frequent Warren contributor, comic legend, Nicola Cuti.  Each of the six stories has its own unique style and was illustrated by a different artist, from industry veterans like Manuel Martin and Bob Berry to talented newcomers assembled from around the world.
All of the stories are mash-ups; the villagers attacking the monsters in “The Diary of Anne Frankenstein”, a swamp creature vs. zombies in “The Bogman Cometh”, Dracula vs. an Arthurian knight in “Unholy Grail”, vicious predators vs. space miners in “Harvest”, a renown naturalist vs. unnatural terrors in “Mr. Darwin’s Zoo of Horrors”, and even an Arabian legend vs. a horde of menacing mummies in “Ali Baba and the Mummy Thieves”.
Kevin M Glover, publisher of the relatively new indie comic label, said: “We’re very excited to present this more serious collection of horror shorts.  Each tale of terror ends with an ironic twist, ala the old ‘Tales from the Crypt’.  People really seemed to love our companion comic mag, the frighteningly funny ‘FRACTURED SCARY TALES’, (currently launching its 3rd print run), but they also asked if we could make a book that was more scary than parody.  ‘MONSTER SMASH-UPS’ is that book. Just don’t read it alone in the dark!”
The first issue of the semi-annual publication has over forty pages of content, with six chilling short stories.  The suggested retail price is $14.95, but is selling for an introductory price of only $10.00.  It can be purchased online at:FracturedScaryTales.com.
Publisher Kevin M Glover is perhaps best known as the producer of the cult films, “Dinosaur Valley Girls” and “Venus Flytrap”.  He is also a multi-award winning screenwriter, published author and active member of the Horror Writers Association.  He can be contacted through his website: ScreamWriter4Hire.com.

About Hollow House:
No one in Willow Street pays it any notice, not the disgruntled Campbell family next door, not Alice Cowley and her suicidal daughter, or Mr. and Mrs. Markham down the road. Not even Darryl, the loner at number seventy, who is abnormal himself, thinks much about it. It is just the old Kemper House, forgotten and abandoned.

Until it makes itself known.

When the stench of death wafts from Kemper House through Willow Street, and comes to the attention of recent resident and newspaper reporter, Ben Traynor, it starts a chain of horrors that brings Kemper House’s curse into their own homes and leads others direct to its door. Kemper House not only haunts its neighbours, it infects them with an evil that traverses time and reality itself.

“Talk about a tough crowd.
Take Charlie Broadmoor’s life. Please. Charlie sucks at stand-up comedy. He gets by, though. Things are okay. His life is decent. Until the night he makes fun of a demon’s comb-over. Big mistake. What kind of demon wears a comb-over? The sensitive kind. The kind who’s not going to let an insult slide. A demon who’s going to take Charlie down. As in down to Hell. And he intends on dragging everyone Charlie cares about along for the ride.”

place as any for new readers to jump in. Recommended. Josh Black,Hellnotes

The author handles the small town horror subgenre as well as anybody currently writing, and his fictional Clifton Heights sits comfortably among the many other such places on the literary horror reader’s tourist map.” Richard Wright
This is quiet horror at its best, subtle and unsettling. It lingers in your waking hours, and
transports you back to Clifton Heights in your nightmares.
Kevin Lucia is, without a doubt, the heir apparent to the legacy of the late Charles L. Grant.....a master at weaving tales of whispers and shadows...the chill touch of night fog and the sound of the wind in the eaves. John Recluse
The “Stand By Me vibe leads into the “True Detectiveone with ease, and each story is unique and will keep you guessing until the next twist. Highly recommended!”

““The Man in the Yellow” is some of the best small town Horror I’ve read. Nice conflict in a young man with Cerebral Palsy who sees how his dad looks at him in shame. When the Man in Yellow comes to town and brainwashes people with promises of healing, things get incredibly creepy. Goodreads review
WOW! its real easy to see why this book has so many 5 star reviews. As far as creepy
Lovcraftian/King style horror goes, it is flawless.” Goodreads review
Quality writing and superb storytelling. For fans of Charles L. Grant and H.P. Lovecraft.
Devourer of Souls is quite horror at its finest!” Goodreads review
Stephen King and Robert McCammon are arguably the two kings of the hill when it comes to comingofage horror stories. Well, if Devourer of Souls is any indication, Kevin Lucia is scratching and clawing his way to join them at that mountaintop.”
Goodreads review
The parallels being made by reviewers to Stephen King’s goldenera tales are genuine. There is a mastery of the genre blooming here. Readers take heed. With “Devourer of Souls” Kevin Lucia has earned a permanent and honored place on my shelf. I can’t wait to see what he offers up next. Goodreads review
Devourer of Souls is two short, wonderfully written tales of subtle horror, cleverly packaged within another story that seems to promise more weird tales from the town of Clifton Heights. Loved it! Slow burn horror done right, with a satisfying, creepy conclusion.” Goodreads review

Zombie George Washington leads an army of Zombie Soldiers in a siege of Washington DC

zom

October 1, 2013 – Stockbridge, GA. WheelMan Press releases novel Zombie George Washington: The Zombie President and His Zombie Army March to Retake DC — Zombie George Washington: The Zombie President and His Zombie Army March to Retake DC

The government hatches a secret plan to resurrect dead war veterans to create an army of zombie super-soldiers, and they bring back two of America’s greatest generals, President George Washington and General George S. Patton, to lead them. But when the two leaders discover just how corrupt the government they once so loyally served has become, it leads to deception, death, destruction, and a zombie army laying siege to Washington, DC, with the long-dead former President at its head.

Disabled African American author, GB Banks, sufferer of Osteogenesis Imperfecta, has been wheelchair- and home-bound and cared for by his parents for all of his 48-years. He hopes to make Zombie George Washington a success so that he can better his life, give back to his parents for everything they have done for him throughout his life, and free himself of the fear of being left alone and placed into a nursing home when they are gone. Banks’ disease, one that has caused him to have extremely brittle bones, stunted his growth, and left him dealing with frequent respiratory issues, but has never allowed his illness to deter him from having big dreams.

Zombie George Washington: The Zombie President and His Zombie Army March to Retake DC, is an epic zombie war tale that can be compared to the films World War Z combined with the film Olympus Has Fallen. It is available through distributors Ingram, Baker & Taylor, and from most major bookstores and ebook retailers worldwide. To contact the author, you may send him an email at:author.gbb@gmail.com.

Press Release: Ramsey Campbell-Holes for Faces

front_med_300px
The new collection Holes for Faces by world-renowned horror author Ramsey Campbell is now available on DarkRegions.com, Amazon.com and the Amazon Kindle.
Trade paperback and ebook editions in stock/available, premium signed limited edition hardcover preorders available on DarkRegions.com and include paperback and/or ebook editions after order is placed.

Description

One of the most respected living horror writers in the world, Campbell has more awards for his horror tales than any other author, and “is likely to be remembered as the leading horror writer of our generation,” according to S.T. Joshi. One of the heirs apparent to early-twentieth-century American author H. P. Lovecraft, Campbell’s horror stories are often set in contemporary Merseyside, England, his own hometown, and involve quite ordinary characters. His unsettling, dreamlike prose, however, transforms his work into very effective horror fiction.
Holes for Faces collects many of his best tales from the first decade of this century. An attempt to avoid a haunted house leads into worse danger. The announcements at a railway station deal with stranger things than trains, and is that another railway station in the distance or a different kind of destination? A childhood game becomes a source of terror, and so does a radio quiz show. Even Christmas decorations may not be trusted, and beware of that Advent calendar! A hotel provides amenities you mightn’t welcome, and a visit to a tourist attraction attracts an uninvited follower. A train journey may never end, unless it already has, and a visit to a hospital brings back more than memories. A myth about a horror film has unwanted consequences. There are angels you mightn’t want to see too clearly, if that’s what they are. And you’ll have to decide if it’s better to stay in the dark or see what’s waiting there. You’ll find uncanny dread in these pages, and disquiet and terror, but also poignancy and comedy of paranoia. One theme runs through all the stories: youth and age.

“Consider Holes for Faces another textbook by one of our best practitioners, an essential addition to the bookshelves of horror readers and writers alike.” – FEAR NET
“Holes For Faces is a must-read for Ramsey Campbell fans, collecting his best stories from this fledgling century we find ourselves in. And if you’ve not been introduced to Mr. Campbell yet, then I can think of no better place to start.” – The Occult Detective
“…a superb collection of stories of the strange and the dark that I’m sure fans of the genre will love. I know I did.” – The Horrifically Horrifying Horror Blog
“The title story, “Holes for Faces,” is a tale of sliding realities in which our protagonist sees a very different world around him. He becomes aware of the horrors that no one else can see. These stories reflect Campbell’s ability to take normal and tilt it just far enough to create fear. This could happen to you he reminds us and that is the greatest fear of all.” – Horror Novel Reviews
“…as the reader progresses into the tales, the tension increases as the stories become more sinister and, well, down right creepy in that some of the stories make us question our innermost selves. In reading “Holes For Faces”, which I have enjoyed immensely, I discovered that my personal favorites are “Getting It Wrong,” “Holes for Faces”, and “The Rounds”.” – Widescreen Online Review
“Campbell is renowned among fans and writers alike as the master of a skewed and exquisitely terrifying style.” – Library Journal

Mental Ward: Stories from the Asylum

MW_Final_Front_Cover_V2

Sanatorium, mental ward, psychiatric hospital – they’re all the same. Places where the infirm, the crazy, and the certifiable go for treatment… Or what passes for ‘treatment’.

This is a collection of stories of bedlam taking place within the padded walls of an institution. Stories of experiments gone wrong, patients revolting against the staff, or even the deranged doings of those charged with giving care. They are sick, depraved, and atrocious – the type of stories that rarely reach the light of day.

Are you brave enough to crawl inside the minds of the thirteen authors who wrote these tales… Or are you afraid you’ll be locked up for peeking?

Delphine Boswell, Alex Chase, Sean Conway, Megan Dorei, A.A. Garrison, Tom Howard, Russell Linton, Suzie Lockhart and Bruce Lockhart 2nd, Jennifer Loring, Sergio Palumbo, Joseph A. Pinto, and D.M. Smith

Midnight Syndicate’s new “Monsters of Legend” CD to be unleashed July 19th

June 20, 2013 (Cleveland, OH) – On July 19, Midnight Syndicate will release it’s sixteenth studio album, “Monsters of Legend.” This “tribute to the golden age of horror” will feature sweeping symphonic horror instrumental music and sound effects in the signature style the band pioneered. “We want to make you feel like you are a character in one of those classic horror films – that you’ve entered a world where any one of the iconic characters from the Universal Horror and Hammer Films could be right around the corner,” said composer Edward Douglas.

The CD artwork features original images from classic Universal Studios horror movies including Frankenstein, Werewolf of London, and Dracula. “Listeners will hear the influence of the Universal Monster, Hammer, and Euro Horror films from the 30s through the 70s, not only in the music but in the images the songs conjure,” added Gavin Goszka. Although the band promises the new disc will deliver the dark atmosphere haunted attractions, roleplaying gamers, and Halloween enthusiasts expect from them, they feel they’ve crafted a disc that transcends their favorite time of the year. “As we did on Carnival Arcane, we’re always trying to take things up a notch both musically and with the sound design. There is a lot going on in this one. Plenty to pull you in, spark your imagination, and keep hold of you anytime you’re looking to visit that mysterious place in your mind’s eye.”MOL

The CD will be available for pre-order the first week in July. In addition to other new merchandise, Entity Productions Halloween Music will be releasing a special edition 12″ vinyl version of the Monsters of Legend album, hand-numbered and limited to 250 copies.

ABOUT MIDNIGHT SYNDICATE:

For almost two decades, composers Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka have been known as Midnight Syndicate, creating symphonic soundtracks to imaginary films that facilitate a transcendental and adventurous escape into the secret dimensions of the mind’s eye. To many of their fans, they are Gothic music pioneers brewing a signature blend of orchestral horror music and movie-style sound effects. To others, they remain the first “haunted house band” that forever changed the Halloween music genre and became a staple of the October holiday season. And some know them as the duo that teamed up with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast to produce the first official soundtrack to the legendary Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game. Their critically-acclaimed works are reminiscent of sweeping, complex masterpieces by artists such as James Horner, Danny Elfman, Black Sabbath and King Diamond and have been featured as a part of groundbreaking films, television shows, video games and at haunted attractions, amusement parks and live performances worldwide.

Midnight Syndicate’s music has become integral to setting a powerful mood at top-rated haunted attractions and amusement parks as well as at costume shops, gaming and Halloween parties and Halloween-themed cruises from Siberia and Hong Kong, to Europe and the United States. The duo has released 15 studio albums since 1997, and Douglas and Goszka’s original, work also been used at Hugh Hefner’s Halloween parties, on episodes of The Barbara Walters Special and in the drive-in film The Rage, Universal Studio’s Horror Nights XVIII as well as by Monday Night Football and by artists Insane Clown Posse, Three Six Mafia, Twiztid and The Misfits. In 2010, Midnight Syndicate released a full-length horror film called The Dead Matter, directed, scored and co-produced by Douglas alongside Robert Kurtzman (From Dusk Till Dawn, co-founder, KNB FX) and Gary Jones (Xena, Boogeyman 3).

Midnight Syndicate continues to pursue its quest to use instrumental music to tell explicit stories full of tension, twists and turns. Most recently, the band completed the score to the grindhouse thriller “Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan.” In summer, 2013, Midnight Syndicate will release the soundtrack to that film along with Monsters of Legend, a tribute to the classic Universal, Hammer and Euro horror films that helped shape horror cinema.

Post Mortem Press announces the release of its latest young adult horror novel Santa Muerte written by Cynthia (cina) Pelayo. Pelayo’s Santa Muerte was researched using recent media reports of the escalating drug cartel crimes in Mexico and North America and the suspected involvement of worship to Santa Muerte, a saint-like figure said to provide love, luck, money, and revenge – all at a price. The novel follows a 17-year-old girl living in Chicago, Ariana Molina, who struggles with visions of death while trying to save her father, a Mexican federal investigator, as well as herself from the wrath of the drug cartels and Saint Death.Santa Muerte Cover

Ariana Molina is a high school student in Chicago and life is quiet until her father, Reynaldo Molina, the lead federal investigator in Mexico targeting criminal organizations arrives on her door step. After her father is involved in a mysterious car accident that leaves one person dead, Ari begins to have visions of a veiled skeletal figure that asks for her father.

Struggling with gruesome ghosts, and being suspicious of suspected gang members that have moved in across the street, Ari soon becomes the target of the drug cartels and their black magic cult of Santa Muerte.

Santa Muerte is available in trade paperback and eBook format via Amazon and other fine on-line retailers.

Press Release: Dark Regions Press – Jeff Strand

New Short Story collection featuring seven never-before-printed tales from Jeff Strand

DEAD CLOWN BARBECUE

clown

From the author of Pressure, Dweller and A Bad Day for Voodoo comes a new short story collection featuring seven never-before-printed tales and original cover artwork by Alex McVey. The stories within this collection range from hilarious to downright disturbing, proving that Jeff Strand is still a master at what he’s known for: a delicious blend of the humorous and the horrific. Strand fans will take delight in the seven new stories first printed in Dead Clown Barbecue, including “Pett Semmuteary,” “Dummy,” “True Hero,” “Fangboy and the Troll,” “Stop Stabbing Me,” “Pregnancy Test,” and “Push the Button.” A man who finds a severed nose on a plate on his dining room table. A bell that can summon Satan (maybe). Casual Fridays at work that get out of control. A cheery outlook on the post-apocalyptic landscape. The final thoughts of a doomed skydiver. A girl punished by having to share a bed with her grandmother’s corpse. Revenge via baking a tarantula into a cake. A shocking look at where those awful computer generated book covers come from. And the lost tale of Fangboy. These are only a few of the demented stories in DEAD CLOWN BARBECUE, a collection of thirty gleefully macabre tales, seven of which were written just for this collection. There’s even a brand new one about a ventriloquist dummy. Those things creep you out, right? You’ll laugh. You’ll scream. Okay… you probably won’t actually scream, unless you already had issues before you started reading, but you might cringe and get a little spooked.

Available on DarkRegions.com, Amazon.com, libraries, specialty bookstores and other online vendors.

Jeff Strand was nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in 2006, 2008, and 2010. Strand’s novel PRESSURE has been optioned for film; he’s hoping the movie will be made soon so he can scream “My baby! What have you done to my precious baby?!?” Strand’s novels are usually classified as horror, but they’re really all over the place, from comedies to thrillers to drama to, yes, even a fairy tale (FANGBOY). Because he doesn’t do cold weather anymore, he lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and two cats.

Press Release: Black Labyrinth-The Walls of the Castle

black_labyrinth-header

From the four time winner of the Bram Stoker Award, two-time winner of the International
Thriller Writers Award and finalist for the 2009 Edgar Allan Poe Award Tom Piccirilli comes
an intense and visceral psychological thriller novella, the first title in the Black Labyrinth
imprint illustrated by Gothic artist Santiago Caruso.

the_walls_of_the_castle_cover-artworkIn the labyrinthian maze of endless corridors, annexes, and wings of the enormous medical complex known as The Castle prowls a grief-stricken man determined to redeem himself and bring justice for those victims incapable of doing it for themselves.

During the four months that his son lay dying, ex-con Kasteel lost his job, his wife, and nearly his mind.  He became a fixture at the Castle, a phantom prowling the halls in the deep night, a shadow of his former self until he faded from sight and was forgotten altogether.

Now, without any life to return to, he takes it upon himself to become the Castle’s guardian.  He lives off the grid hiding among the hundreds of miles of twisting passages, rooms, offices, and underground parking structures.  Despair, confusion, and terror are the natural state and trade of any hospital:  Not only must the patients endure disease and infirmity, but others are victims of physical and sexual abuse from the outside world or from cruel security guards. pill_skull

The Castle was originally a colonial Dutch settlement: a village that grew into a town which grew into a city and at last became a hospital.  Kasteel has lost his very identity to this place, taking for himself the original Dutch name for “Castle.”

Kasteel sleeps in empty operating theaters, sneaks food from the cafeteria, hacks into computers, and is privy to both staff and patient files.  Using his skills as a burglar he tracks down the attackers, the deceivers, and the killers.

In the psychiatric wing’s day rooms and gardens long-suffering patient Hedgewick is Kasteel’s only friend.  Hedgewick sees his father’s ghost and claims to fight in a gladiatorial arena while the hospital guards bet on the winners.  Kasteel and Hedge often meet in the Fool’s Tower, a ten-story high steeple once used to quarantine yellow fever victims a century ago, overlooking acres of gardens.  A place where family members go to pray for their loved ones, and the distraught often commit suicide.

But a new name is now whispered in the Castle: Abaddon, the ancient name for the angel of death.  A brain-damaged woman has visions and speaks only to Kasteel.  Abaddon is a killer, a man lost to the Castle like Kasteel himself, wandering the corridors searching out victims.  Even as Abaddon hunts the innocent, Kasteel hunts Abaddon, eager for a final showdown that may at last set him free.

20% of hardcover proceeds for The Walls of the Castle by Tom Piccirilli
will be donated directly to the author, and 100% of ebook proceeds will go
to the author in his fight against brain cancer. He recently underwent
surgery to remove a golf ball-sized tumor from his brain and there has
been a massive community outpouring.  Buying The Walls of the Castle is
another way to help Tom in his fight.

SHANGHAI STEAM: A Unique and Totally Cool Steampunk-Wuxia Mashup

To scare or not to scare: That is the question.

Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to write of

The slings and arrows of a character’s ill fortune

Or to rip away that character’s two arms in a bloody sea of troubles

And by opposing what the reader craves, end their interest. To die, to sleep–

No more the story shall be read if I choose wrong–and by such sleep careers doth end.

          – Written by Laurel Anne Hill, Most Wicked 2011, even as Shakespeare groaned from his grave

Sometimes I write horror. Sometimes I don’t. My latest offering, Moon-Flame Woman is not horror, although my main character, Cho Ting-Lam, finds herself in a horrible situation. Moon-Flame Woman is steampunk, and included in SHANGHAI STEAM  (Absolute XPress, November 2012), a steampunk-wuxia anthology to be launched at the upcoming World Fantasy Convention in Toronto.

The setting for Moon-Flame Woman is a North American railroad construction camp in 1866. That’s because the tremendous contribution of  Chinese workers in the building of the U.S. transcontinental railroad never ceases to impress me. Yet nineteenth-century Chinese laborers in the United States didn’t receive the respect they deserved.

In Moon-Flame Woman, Ting-Lam has lost self-respect. She, a slave, has neither a husband nor sons. Disguised as a man, Ting-Lam uses explosives and crystal technology to bore railroad tunnels through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Then a railroad superintendent endangers her and her people.

I invite you to visit the worlds within SHANGHAI STEAM. From ancient China to a future Mars, from the British Empire to the Old West, nineteen authors will show you worlds with alcohol-fueled dragons, philosophical automatons, and Qi-powered machines both wondrous and strange in tales of vengeance, paper lantern revolutions and flying monks.

Press Release: Dark Regions Press-Notes from the Shadow City

Notes from the Shadow City

by Gary William Crawford and Bruce Boston

“In Notes from the Shadow City, Crawford and Boston distill a bleak dystopian vision. Alone or together, and utilizing poetry, prose, and photographic images, they have crafted a guidebook, a Baedeker to the same outliers as chronicled by Dostoyevsky, Kafka, and Orwell, where shadows are more real than the gnomons that cast them, and the predominant colors come from the stripped-down underside of the rainbow.”
—Robert Borski, author of Blood Wallah and Other Poems
“Like grim guides of the underworld, Boston and Crawford lead you into a terrifying landscape of tragedy and tyranny. At times morbid, despairing, inspiring, and hauntingly beautiful, the Shadow City etches itself into your mind with lonely, tormented characters and their tragic fates.”
                —Anders Monsen, Editor, Prometheus
“Boston’s and Crawford’s voices meld beautifully to create dark music. Notes from the Shadow City will echo in your nightmares.”
—Linda D. Addison, Bram-Stoker-Award-winning author of Being Full of Light, Insubstantial
“To say that reading Notes from the Shadow City is a delight might be misleading; to say that it is unsettling, disconcerting, provocative, and remarkable is to scratch the surface of the shadows and begin to reveal the genius beneath.”
—from the introduction by Michael R. Collings, author of The House beyond the Hill

Bruce Boston lives in Ocala, Florida, once known as the City of Trees, with his wife, writer-artist Marge Simon, and the ghosts of two cats. He is the author of fifty books and chapbooks, including the novels The Guardener’s Tale and Stained Glass Rain. His poetry and fiction have appeared in hundreds of publications, including Asimov’s SF Magazine, Amazing Stories, Weird Tales, Strange Horizons, Realms of Fantasy, Year’s Best Fantasy and Horror, and The Nebula Awards Showcase. One of the leading genre poets for more than a quarter century, Boston has won the Bram Stoker Award for Poetry, the Asimov’s Readers Award for Poetry, and the Rhysling Award of the Science Fiction Poetry Association, each a record number of times. His fiction has received a Pushcart Prize and been a finalist for the Bram Stoker Novel Award and the Micro Award for flash fiction. Gary William Crawford (born 1953) is an American writer and small press publisher. He is the founder and editor of Gothic Press, which since 1979 has published books and periodicals in the field of Gothic literature. From 1979 to 1987, Crawford produced six issues of the journal Gothic, which features articles on Gothic fiction from 1764 to 1986. Later, the press published the horror poetry magazine Night Songs. In recent years, the press has published The Gothic Chapbook Series, which features pamphlets of fiction, poetry and scholarship. He has numerous poems, stories, and articles in the small press. Crawford has recently begun the online journal, Le Fanu Studies, about ghost and mystery story writer J. Sheridan Le Fanu, and is compiling Internet databases on Le Fanu, Fritz Leiber, Ramsey Campbell, Walter de la Mare and Robert Aickman.

AFTER DARK FILMS ANNOUNCES: SECONDS APART

AFTER DARK FILMS ANNOUNCES SEVENTH ORIGINAL TITLE
SECONDS APART PACKS A TERRIFYING ONE-TWO PUNCH

Los Angeles, CA (Dec. 9th, 2010) — After Dark Films CEO Courtney Solomon has announced, SECONDS APART, as part of the After Dark Originals “A New Brand of Fear” line-up. The film is directed by award winning short-film director Antonio Negret (Towards Darkness) and stars Orlando Jones (Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, Evolution) and twins Gary Entin (Rest Stop, The Seeker) & Edmund Entin (Rest Stop, The Seeker, The New Daughter).

Seth and Jonah are murderous twins who share an evil kinship. Damned from the moment of their births, the brothers possess a talent for telekinesis – a power they are suspected of misusing in the most horrific ways imaginable. As fellow students meet gory fates, a local investigator suspects the twins are connected to these gruesome murders, culminating in one final showdown of brother against brother, evil against evil.

Says Producer Courtney Solomon, “Everyone’s heard about that creepy ‘twin thing.’” You just can’t under-estimate the power of twins, and this film is seasoned by the exceptional performances of Gary and Edmund Entin”.

Seconds Apart, from Executive Producers Courtney Solomon and Stephanie Caleb, was shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A release date for Seconds Apart and all eight Originals is scheduled for late January 2011. The series was developed in partnership with Lionsgate. Exclusive content can be found on facebook at www.facebook.com/secondsapartmovie

After Dark Films made an unprecedented commitment to the production of eight original horror films this year under the After Dark Originals “A New Brand of Fear” label, continuing the Company’s mission of supporting first time independent film writers and directors. The creation
of the AD Originals slate is just another example of the Company’s commitment to the indie film industry.

Unlike After Dark’s “8 Films To Die For®”, After Dark Originals are wholly financed and produced by After Dark Films. The ADO slate runs the gamut of the genre, from paranormal phenomena, black magic, and vengeful ghosts to psychological trauma, murderous psychopaths, vampires and the undead. After Dark polled its fans and is delivering the kinds of movies they asked for!
